WikkedWire's newest threat to emerge is an onslaught of spam that possibly links to a virus, worm, or trojan file. These spam messages contain links to certain file sharing sites (Megaupload.com, Sendspace.com, etc.) since these services do not have a way of scanning files uploaded to their site.

WikkedWire is doing it's best to prevent you and your users from being sent these unsolicited advertisements. In order to do so, we have to add filters called spamfilters. These spamfilters, as part of our IRC software package, filter out certain words and/or phrases and block or gline users who trigger said spamfilter.

The bad news is that in adding these spamfilters to block these said messages, it also prevents some users from trading legit files using the above mentioned file sharing sites.

UPDATE - August 15th - We have added more sources to our proxy checker to try and catch these spammers before they fully connect to the network. It is working 99% of the time, banning them right after connection. We have removed the blocks against all file-sharing sites. Our spamfilters only check against certain file names in order to try and prevent legit files from these websites from being blocked.

THERE ARE NO FILESHARING SITES BLOCKED AT THIS TIME.
